Our Congregation

The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is an international congregation of Catholic religious sisters, embracing both apostolic and contemplative ways of life, and carrying out its mission in collaboration with Partners-in-Mission.

Founded in 1835 in Angers, France, by Saint Mary Euphrasia Pelletier, the Congregation is committed to embodying the reconciling and compassionate presence of Jesus the Good Shepherd in today's world. Through its ministry, it seeks to promote dignity, justice, reconciliation, and the fullness of life for all, especially those who are marginalized and vulnerable.

Present in 67 countries across five continents, the Sisters work to empower individuals, uphold rights, and restore the dignity of girls, women, and children, particularly those who experience poverty, injustice, exploitation, and exclusion. Through value-based education, social services, advocacy, pastoral care healthcare and community development, they foster a global culture of justice, compassion, reconciliation, and mercy. Inspired by the conviction that "one person is of more value than the whole world," they continue to reveal God's unconditional love through their service to those who are most vulnerable and marginalized.

Their commitment to reconciliation calls them to be active agents of justice and peace, working to transform unjust structures, heal broken relationships, and build communities rooted in dignity, solidarity, and hope.
